WARNING: My Experience at Lanzarote General Hospital (Jose Molina Orosa)(27–29 September 2025)
I feel it’s important to share my experience at Lanzarote General Hospital to warn anyone considering treatment there. My two-night stay (27–29 September 2025) left me shocked, distressed, and determined never to return.
I was taken there by ambulance as an URGENT case from the Jorgani Clinic in Costa Teguise. Despite this, I was left sitting alone in a waiting room for hours, told my wife could not accompany me. I had already had full blood tests at the clinic—results were sent with the ambulance crew—yet I was made to repeat them and then wait another 2½ hours for results. My wife wasn’t allowed to see me until after midnight, and visiting hours were restricted to 13:00–21:00, adding to the distress.
Once admitted, things only got worse:
1. Unhygienic Conditions – The shared toilet and shower were dirty, with urine containers left out, hair and debris in the shower, and overall poor hygiene.
2. Excessive Noise & No Rest – Only one television in the room, constantly blaring in Spanish, and noisy equipment made sleep impossible. No effort was made to provide a restful environment.
3. IV Treatment Cut Off – When I tried to rest elsewhere, a nurse forcibly disconnected my IV and refused to reconnect it unless I returned to the noisy room. As I was nil by mouth, this left me without nourishment—completely unacceptable.
4. Abusive Behaviour by Doctor – A doctor later shouted at me in a rude and demeaning manner. The interaction was so distressing that I recorded it for evidence.
5. Sleep Deprivation & Health Impact – I ended up sleeping in a public rest area until 5:30 a.m., without IV support, which obviously harmed my recovery.
6. Misleading Discharge Documents – On discharge, I was asked to sign paperwork that I later discovered falsely stated I had voluntarily discharged myself. This is untrue—I never asked to leave. I had only requested a fit-to-fly certificate, which was refused multiple times.
Overall, I found the staff dismissive, unprofessional, and at times intimidating. The level of care and cleanliness was far below acceptable standards.
I have since submitted a formal complaint to the hospital’s director and will escalate the matter to my insurance provider, the British Embassy, and relevant media outlets if necessary.
I’m sharing this publicly so that others—especially UK visitors—are aware of the risks and can make an informed choice. If you ever need medical treatment in Lanzarote, I strongly advise you to avoid Lanzarote General Hospital and consider alternative facilities.

If you think certain Irish or UK Emergency Departments are bad, in my opinion this hospital could genuinely be used for a documentary — or a parody — depending on the level of anger.

They refused to allow me get food for my partner, despite the two of us sitting in their freezing cold Emergency Department for over 6 hours.
They also said they would refuse to let me back in if I left to get food for myself. In essence treating people like prisoners.
No vending machines with food on-site, just water, fizzy drinks and disgusting coffee.

The staff are ridiculously slow, inefficient, unorganised, unbothered and rude while doing their jobs to the point where it should be illegal.

This is hands down the most grossly incompetent, unprofessional, sneering bunch of people I think I have ever encountered in my life and they are a disgrace to the people of Lanzarote.

Dont come here unless really necessary. Very unprofessional hospital. 1yo child received only a very basic examination despite very high fever and dehydration and was sent home at 3am in a morning by taxi without a child seat. The doctor is obliged to provide a safe and legal transport in such case.

My wife was referred here from the local medical centre in Playa Blanca, following an injury to her foot three weeks ago, as they don't have X Ray facilities there.
From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, just over an hour later, it couldn't have better. Having a referral letter from the medical centre helped but within 5 minutes of registering my wife was in triage and referred to an orthopaedic waiting room. There were quite a few patients waiting but nothing like A and E in a busy hospital in England.
She was taken for an X Ray after about 20 minutes and then seen by an English speaking doctor who advised that there was no fracture but that there was ligament damage caused by a twist. She was told to rest with the foot elevated.
Make sure you have your passport and GHIC card and you don't pay a penny.
This hospital was excellent. Perhaps it's different at night .

Worst place to visit when you are sick.
You could wait 3,4 hours in the emergency and the drs are talking about football , swimming and drinking coffe while you are dying to see a dr
The whole hospital in perfect just avoid the emergency because they are ( RUDE , ATTITUDE , THEY COULD SEE YOU IN PAIN AND IGNORE YOU.)
We gave them another chance when i am sick but 3 weeks ago i came with my son and he had a fever and also my son is a special needs and pre mature also we have been waiting more than two hours while the emergency is empty
They ignored us and some of them advised us to go to a private hospital
Time that i posted the pictures is 20:20 while its empty since more than 45 mins if the management could do a little but efforts and check their staff.

If you want to die come to this hospital -

I had an extremely unpleasant experience at Hospital Doctor Jose Molina Orosa in Lanzarote. The services provided are far from satisfactory. The waiting times are excessively long, and the staff does not seem to give proper attention to the patients. My niece was involved in a car accident and was brought to the hospital, where she was left waiting in a room for 9 hours without receiving adequate care.

What is even more concerning is that no investigations were done to check if she had any internal injuries or internal bleeding, and during this time, she wasn’t even taken for a scan. As a family member, I was not allowed to access any information about her health status, not even the name of the doctor treating her. Moreover, I wasn’t allowed to visit her, and she was not given any food or water throughout the day (she hadn't eaten since the morning, and it was almost midnight).

It is unacceptable for a hospital to treat patients and their families in such a manner, especially in the case of someone who has suffered a serious accident. I strongly recommend that the authorities take measures to improve the care and communication conditions at this hospital.

Arrived at the hospital at 6:00pm, watched every single person in the waiting room called through and new people arrive - all seen before us. Attempted to get an update from the receptionist (dressed as GI Jane) but found her to be rude and unhelpful, busy flirting with the security guard who fancied himself a policeman: equally as rude. Sniggering with his colleague about our predicament but didn’t like it when I addressed his rudeness. Eventually seen by a doctor at 10:44pm. We were the only British in the hospital and we were the only ones being ignored.

My first holiday in Lanzarote, in my 10 day unfortunate I suffered a heart attack, was advised to go to this hospital,
From entering the building the reception staff were swift and has me in triage within 5 minuts. In turn they had me being examined by several wonderful doctors and nurses. After this I was placed in ICU and observed for 12 hours. While there is was very obvious that the team
Were very professional, courteous and all very good humoured, this gave me great confidence and i genuinely felt I was definitely in the right place. I’m from Ireland so the language barrier was a very slight problem, without favour each member of the team tried there very best to communicate with me to the best of there ability. Each one made me feel important, operating theatre people were first class and I had an angiogram and one stent fitted. I was then transferred down to a ward and was under observation for 48 hours. If I tried I could not thank each person enough. Honestly they were all amazing. In particular my cardiologist Dr Mateo Gomes, her colleague hope I spell his name right. Dr Nasa and one other Doctor, I never asked his name.
Under there great care I will make a full recovery as I’m only 62 years old. And I love my
Life.
Please accept my sincere gratitude and know you have a truly great hospital, and even better team and I’m truly blessed to meet each and every one of you
